Why I'm Running
I have a unique perspective on the school district, the state of education, the treatment of teachers, and changing demographics of the community.
"Education is the movement from darkness to light"
Parents and community members deserve to send their children to schools in which students feel safe in every sense of the word. That means following both district lockdown procedures and proper health and mitigation strategies during flu, Covid, and lice outbreaks. That also means students should feel safe in all their identities. Including race, gender, sexuality, and religion.
In the true sense of the word, equity, every student starts from a different place and each needs something different to be successful. I want all students, no matter their race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, disability, etc. to feel welcome and get a quality education.
As a teacher, I have a unique perspective. I truly understand the stress that is being added to teachers' plates by limiting what they can teach. Teachers are already leaving the field in droves due to a number of untenable circumstances. This additional stress will only push more teachers out of the field and stop future teachers from pursuing it. I acknowledge that this country, like most countries, has a very ugly history. But, denying the truth of this history does nothing but harm future generations and the future of this country.
